Abstract
In cooperation with the Integrated Forest Management Project (IFMP), situated in the fir (Abies densa) belt of the Bhutan Himalayas, the following forest ecological baseline studies are conducted: regeneration ecology (species interactions, seedbed and light requirements of A. densa), stand structure and stand dynamics and nutrient status of the fir forest eco-systems. Local forest use and local management systems are studied, the environmental impact of mangement operations is monitored. Forest management guidelines based on the findings of the baseline studies and the monitoring results are prepared.
