Calcium foliar leaching by precipitation as a function of Ca availability for sugar maple stands (acer saccharum) in New Hampshire, USA.
Abstract
This project is part of the project 'Response of Northern Hardwood Forests to Nutrient Perturbation'. It is hypothesized that increasing Ca foliar content causes higher foliar leaching of Ca and other major nutrients due to acid deposition. Hence, nutrient cycling within the system leaf-soil-plant uptake will be accelerated. Through fall will be measured at 12 maple stand plots (control, CaCl2, AlCl3, 4 replications) with bulk samplers. Separation of net through fall (dry deposition and canopy exchange) will be performed by a model of Ulrich, by regression analysis and by strontium isotope method.
