Biogenic emissions of greenhouse gases by arable and animal agriculture
Abstract
The EU Concerted Action 'Biogenic Emissions of Greenhouse Gases Caused by Arable and Animal Agriculture' (FAIR3-CT96-1877) deals with biogenic emissions of the direct greenhouse gases N2O, CH4, and CO2, as well as of the indirect greenhouse gases NH3 und NO from plant and animal husbandry. Institutions from ten European countries are involved in the project: Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Great Britain, The Netherlands, France, Germany, Austria, Italy, and Switzerland. The project collects and assesses data on field measurement results of and emission factors for specific agricultural sources. In addition, currently applied measurement technologies are summarised and evaluated to derive recommendations for future measurements. Thirdly, a standard method for a European inventory of biogenic greenhouse gases from the agricultural sector is being developed.
