Abstract
The fabrication of biomimetic membranes is essential for the investigation of structure-function relationships of biologically functional molecules. Since the concept of an S-layer supported lipid membran has already been optimized by nature in the cell envelope of archaebacteria this research project is concentrated on the recrystallization of S-layers on phospholipid- and tetraetherlipid films. The functionalization of such S-layer stabilized membranes is performed by integrating functional molecules such as carriers, ion channels or proton pumps. The fabrication and application of such composite membranes might lead to a key technology in the investigation of membrane associated or integrated functional molecules.
