ECOCITY - Urban development towards Appropriate Structures for Sustainable Transport
Abstract
Urban growth usually happens in contradictory ways to the concept of sustainable settlement development. The overall goal of the project is to develop settlement patterns for sustainable cities (ECOCITIES), emphasising the implications for an environmentally compatible transport system. The approach is to develop a common concept, design model settlements in 7 participating countries general guidelines for planning. The basis for the project is the analysis of the state of the art and the megatrends in settlement development to determine ¿sensitive points¿ for changes. Based on the overall conceptual framework and criteria, the project team will develop the concept for a sustainable model settlement in Bad Ischl and work out implementation strategies. An important part of the project is the following evaluation of the proposed solutions and the presenting of recommendations for a sustainable settlement development. The project results will be published in a handbook on sustainable settlement development for cities and communities, on a public access Internet site and on CDRom.
