Abstract
Crystalline S-layer represent the outermost cell envelope component of many bacteria and archaea. The goals of the present project are the following: definition of continuous cultivation conditions to obtain biomass with defined cell wall properties, preparation of S-layer ultrafiltration membranes, use of S-layers as matrix for the immobilization of biologically active macromolecules and recrystallization of S-layer proteins on solid supports and interfaces.
