Winter enclosures and development of game caused damages
Abstract
In the year 1976, after a big storm event, the forest enterprise in Nasswald (MA49 city of Vienna forest administration) realised that they have a high forestry-caused predisposition for browse and bark peeling by game ungulates because of intensive forest-economy and densiderative forest-care. Changings in the forestry and the establishment of winter-enclosures should decimate primarily the bark peeling impacts by game ungulates. This project will create and install a simple monitoring system for controlling the success of the management techniques. It lasted over 12 years and started before the first two enclosures were established.
