MBR-Recycling - Waterrecycling and reuse by application of membrane bioreactors: textile and municipal wastewaters as examples
Abstract
In the Third World a growing water demand by industry and private households is met by an increasing water shortage in combination with a poorer water quality. Therefore, new and adapted technologies are needed to secure a save water supply and to protect the environment. This project resembles a co-operation of four partners from Austria, Germany, Tunisia and Algeria. The objective is the application and optimization of the membrane bioreactor technology in combination with other advanced treatment methods for water recycling and reuse in the urban/industrial context in North Africa. These other technologies include ultra- and nanofiltration as well as advanced oxidation processes (e.g. ozonation). In the framework of the project the new technology for wastewater treatment and recycling is developed and applied in the of fields of municipal and textile wastewater treatment. Different recycling options for the treated waste water in the textile industry and in the agricultural sector are tested. The use of a relatively new, innovative and forwards oriented technology will enhance the scientific and technological knowledge within the Euro-Med partnership.
