DONCALIBRANT - Feasibility Study for the Production of Certified Calibrants for the Determination of Deoxynivalenol and other B-Trichothecenes
Abstract
B-trichothecenes are highly toxic mycotoxins produced by Fusarium moulds in cereals. A problem for regulation and control of B-trichothecenes is the lack of comparability of measurement results obtained for these toxins as a result of the use of inappropriate calibrants. The objective of the project is to develop the ability to produce and certify calibrants for their concentrations of four relevant B-trichothecenes including deoxynivalenol related to the monitoring of these mycotoxins in cereals, food and feed. Research work to be carried out within the proposed project comprises studies on isolation and characterisation of purified solid B-trichothecenes at purity levels >97%. The preparation of calibrants as test batches for future certified reference materials, the determination of molar absorption coefficients, homogeneity and stability studies and the performance of an intercomparison study with 14 participants.
