Rural Proofing - a global perspective
Abstract
Rural Proofing means that as policy is developed and implemented the impacts on rural areas are assessed. In England the Countryside Agency, a statutory adviser to Government on rural affairs, sponsored by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, is responsible for monitoring the performance of government departments on rural proofing their policy development. It is the goal of this study to find out, whether there are processes similar to rural proofing in Austria, on the formal as well as on the informal level. It will be shown how the process works, who is involved in it and which criteria are used for assessing the impacts on rural areas.
