future.scapes - Global change and its influence on landscape and society
Abstract
future.scapes examines and downscales global change effects to the local and regional level. The research will focus on those most pressing economic, societal and landscape transitions. It aims to support practitioners in recognising, understanding and managing change. The proVISION projekt future.scapes is lead by ARC Systems Research, the BOKU leads the subproject agri.scapes. Farmers cultivate most of Austria's rural area and thus shape its cultural landscape. Global change leads also to changes in farm structure and cultivation practices. agri.scapes will investigate promising management approaches and strategies. The crucial questions are: how can resilient structures be established to strengthen family farms? To what extent is adaptive management a useful concept? A series of workshops with farmers will ensure developing strategies based on local issues, perspectives and knowledge. To consider gender-specific aspects, the workshops will be women-only and men-only. agri.scapes aims to develop scenarios and to identify structures enhancing the resilience of family farms in the face of global change. Project Website
