Benchmarking in urban development: landscape structure and geomancy on the example of the urban development project "Airfield Aspern", Vienna.
Abstract
The following study analyses the structures of the landscape and the geomantic qualities of the Aspern Airfield. Based on the concept that geomantic systems are the foundation of a bodily expression of space, recommendations for future development in biogeographic and cultural context of the city extension area of Aspern can be deduced. As an expertise the study provides a qualitative foundation for a masterplan process for the development as district of the former airfield. Based on landscape-structural as well as on geomantic space analysis, recommendations for the space development of the project area were given. The zonings are related to the special geomantic qualities of the project area and were displayed in schematical way. The design implementation and the spatial formulation are part of the next planning steps. (cf. the depiction of the plan inside the study). The aim of the recommendations of the study is to stabilize and strengthen the vital power of the project area. The results provide a basis for the planning, and the development of the master- and implementation plan of the Aspern Airfield.
