Abstract
On the basis of the research project “Active” which focussed on the mapping of the thermal component of human bio-climate in Austria a sample of Austrian regions with high thermal exposure will be defined. Not only for these regions but also for the whole territory in general we will identify the extent of the nocturnal cooling up to now by means of historic meteorological data for later comparison with regional climate change scenarios. These data of nocturnal cooling will be correlated with rate of morbidity and/or mortality for selected periods and regions (probably the region of Vienna) to check if there is a significant correlation. The next step will be the choice of appropriate meteorological parameters (or regions) to find a relationship between the different scales of nocturnal cooling and GCMs. On the basis of dynamical downscaling (Usage of PRUDENCE Scenarios) scenarios for nocturnal cooling for selected regions of Austria will be derived and compared with historic data with the goal to identify potential changes in the regions of thermal exposure under changing climatic conditions.
