Bio-degradable materials
Abstract
Biodegradable materials will be used with increasing market share for packaging purposes. Now as before, few is known about the potential influence to compost and soil. It has been demonstrated that some materials have inhibited germination and growth of plants. Identified causes are manifold, with microbial induced reactions in the front. Routinely biodegradability of raw materials up to market products is determined to support the development the production and formulation of thermoplastic, biogenic materials. Besides improvement of product performances, recipes are developed for new functional products like biodegradable mulching foils with pre-determined lifetime or for encapsulation of active substances for defined slow-release-systems. Besides experimental research work, studies for use and utilisation of biodegradable packaging were performed.
