KITE - A Knowledge Base for Intermodal Passenger Travel in Europe
Abstract
The main objective of the KITE project is the development of a knowledge base in which all relevant information about inter modality will be collected and be made accessible easily. This will provide politicians, authorities, planners and transport providers with a coherent source of information, from which measures towards improved passenger inter modality can be developed. Scientifically the project aims at identifying, collecting and combining all relevant information necessary for decision makers and to foster the inter modal passenger transport in Europe. To reach this goals the following steps will be conducted: - Analysis of all aspects of user needs to be enabled to act inter modally (e.g. information, ticketing, baggage handling) and their willingness to pay for services promoting seamless inter modality; - Analysis of the technological deficits and transport system-related obstacles for seamless inter modality; - Analysis of the available European data sources (statistics, mobility surveys) concerning inter modal travel behaviour, derivation of recommendations for sufficient statistics and recommendation of a suitable survey methodology to close remaining informational gaps; - Analysis of existing inter modal infrastructure, as well as inter modal information and ticketing services to enlighten the requirements for easy-to-use interfaces from the users’ perspective; Based on the findings the project will provide: - recommendations for standards for seamless inter modality that support travellers’ best; - a catalogue of inter modality fostering measures and guidelines for their implementation; - an assessment methodology based on cost-benefit-techniques to evaluate the impacts on inter modality and - a suitable survey design able to capture inter modal travel behaviour. - Knowledgebase on the website: http://kite-project.eu/
