Development of a video system for monitoring fish migrations at fish ladders
Abstract
This preliminary study that is conducted at the fish ladder the hydropower plant Melk, Danube, aims at: • Analyzing the seasonal applicability of a video monitoring system with regard to the turbidity of the Danube to assess the potential for future applications, also at other rivers • Selection of appropriate sites for installation • Testing different camera types and systems • Testing different lightning options for night situations • Service and technical requirements of a monitoring station • Review of recent applications and experiences throughout Europe Project leader: DI.Dr. Thomas Kaufmann (Company "freiwasser") Partner: Gerhard Pock (gpv - Video production), development of technical equipment, field work Partner: BOKU, scientific consulting, development of technical equipment, statistical analysis, field work Final products of the project are a underwater video, a technical report with recommendations for the contracting body, VERBUND-AHP.
