Ecological, economic and socio-economic assessment of biogas from the gas grid used as fuel and in stationary combustion
Abstract
The project proposal follows a recommendation of the „Energie der Zukunft“ jury for an „comprehensive ecological and economic assessment“ of the renewable energy carrier biogas in the course of the project “virtual biogas”. The study follows a variety of biogas utilization pathways, starting from the production and fermentation of the biomass, biogas cleaning and feeding into the network to the final usage and pro-vision of transport, heating and electric energy services. In addition to the request of the jury a social science and a macro economic analysis will be carried out. As a result we will present a comprehensive study, carried out by a high quality consortium with the following headlines: 1. Cost and Potential Analysis of Biomass Production and Fermentation 2. Ecological Assessment of Biogas Utilization Pathways (Life Cycle Analyses) 3. Economic Analysis and Assessment of Biogas Utilization Pathways 4. Social Science Analysis of Framework Conditions for Implementation 5. Analysis of Agricultural and Energy Policy 6. Energy Market Perspectives of Project Results 7. Macro Economic Analysis: Employment, Fiscal and Foreign Trade Balance Results will be consolidated in comprehensive assessment and conclusions for relevant stakeholders drawn.
