Mechanized planting of container raised seedlings (Pilot study)
Abstract
The objective of the project is an evaluation of the machines that are currently available for mechanical planting of container raised seedlings. It is planned to compare the different types of machines by means of predefined criteria. The comparison will be based on an literature analysis and on oral interviews. A case study will be carried out that compares the costs for planting (including the preparation of the area) of three different alternatives: (1) manual planting device with previous mulching (2) plough with integrated molding cutter (3) plough after soil scarification. Beyond of finding out the technical feasibility and costs, at a particular time later, the success in growing shall be evaluated. Based on the pilot study a functional specification sheet for the planting machines of container raised seedlings shall be developed and the study layout for further investigations determined.
