Biodiversity
Abstract
The project aims to investigate the influence of environmental education on the awarness and consciousness of natural values and biodiversity of school children. In this pilot project we conduct and evaluate excursions into the local Natura 2000 site "Tullnerfelder Danube Floodplains" with pupils (aged 6-16) of the "Sonderpädagogisches Zentrum Stockerau", a school for children with special needs. The evaluation includes the following methods: Interviews with pupils and teachers before and after the field trips; Analysis and interpretation of drawings before and after; observation of the children´s behaviour during the excursions. Based on the results we will develop recommendations for teachers and other environmental educationists onthe conception of environmental activities which are suitable to teach biodiversity to this special needs group.
