Elimination of cytostatic drugs from industrial waste water
Abstract
The project is conducted in the framework of a master thesis via a cooperation between the Division of Analytical Chemistry at BOKU and Ebewe Pharma (Unterach/Attersee). The ambition of the work is to quantify and accordingly to balance the concentration of drugs in the waste water of different production processes, which are used at Ebewe Pharma. The balance models are assured via measurement of the concentration of pharmaceutics in the real waste water streams of the production. The project consists of three parts. The first part contains a literature study about selective elimination of drugs (ca. 15 cytostatic agents) from industrial waste water and the behavior of the substances in waste water regarding stability and identity of degradation products. In the second part an input/model is created aiming at the modeling of waste water charges caused by different processes. This model is then optimized and assured by measurement data obtained via analytical procedures based on LC-MS and LC-ICP-MS performed in the third part of the work.
