- Abstract
- Cities have a large and increasing elderly population and a high number of those live in poor housing conditions. The study goal is the reduction of the vulnerability of elderly population living in cities (Vienna) against urban heat. The study develops sustainable short- and long-term preventive measures for the in- and outdoors and on an individual and institutional level by inter- and transdisciplinary co-operations. It investigates peoples’ (>65 years) awareness of health-related heat risks, perception of heat stress and appropriate adaptive behavior avoiding heat impacts. High-risk groups will be described. The empirical study will identify gaps between 1) actual and recommended behavior of the elderly 2) proposed or existing stakeholder health-related strategies and efficacious measures from the medical resp. public-health point of view
