GreenUrbanClimate - Optimiziation of Urban Climate und Water Balance Meteorological Part
Abstract
The aim of the interdisciplinary research project GreenUrbanClimate is to improve existing construction methods of green roofs and facades as well as permeable surfaces used in road-building, based on research in the fields of landscaping, spatial planning, meteorology and economy. Amongst other parameters the effects of the different construction methods on surface and air temperature, albedo, air movement, heat transfer and water retention will be measured. Using selected urban structures and the measurement results, the spatial effects of a widespread use of the investigated construction methods on water and heat balance will be simulated and their middle and long term significance analyzed. From the insights of the investigation, objectives for urban heat and water balance will be derived and spatial planning instruments for civil services developed, which should facilitate the achievement of the objectives. Based on a cost-benefit analysis also guidelines for construction will be compiled.
