Chemical weather forecast, improvement of th operational modelling system, Part 4
Abstract
In collaboration with the Central Institute for Meteorology and Geodynamics (ZAMG) in Vienna the Institute of Meteorology of the University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences performs an operational daily ozone forecast for the northeast of Austria since 2005 in the months April to September. In the frame of this project certain modules of the applied modelling system are improved. In addition the forecasts of the past ozone season are evaluated annually in comparison with the air quality measurements in the region of interest. Further, the model results are compared with other models (EURAD) and the results concerning particulate matter are evaluated. The work concerning the improvement of the model system deals with the following points in particular: - The calculation of the coefficients for vertival diffusion that are derived from the meteorological input data from the operational ALADIN-model by different parametrizations. - The impact of different input data for the total ozone column that are used in the calculation of the photolysis rates in the chemical mechanism. - The calculation of biogenic emissions of hydrocarbons and nitrogen oxides. With the emission model SMOKE more hydrocarbons are calculated than with the previous method and more modern algorithms (BEIS3) are applied.
