“Wienfluss” (Vienna) between “Halterbachmündung” and “Kennedybrücke”: feasibility study of a near-natural design
Abstract
The study was initiated against the background of the red-green-intergovernmental agreement from November 2010. It aims at framing ideas and investigating the feasibility of a near-natural design of the "Wienfluss" (Vienna) between Halterbachmündung and Kennedybrücke. A focus will be on making the new bike and pedestrian route "Wienfluss" more attractive. Therefore particular design motives (e.g. greening, swimming islands, seating facilities, shading) will be analysed in respect of their ecological, hydraulic and economic feasibility and furthermore assessed from the point of sociology and urban planning. Based on this main design elements will be developed, which theoretically could be installed in different places of the "Wienfluss" or additive in different construction phases.
