Studies on population dynamics of rock partrige (Alectoris graeca Meisner 1804) in Croatia
Abstract
The rock partrige (Alectoris graeca Meisner 1804) is listed in the European Bird Directive, Annex I, requiring particular protection of habitats and populations in its range of distribution. In the past, both large fluctuations and distinct break downs of population densities could be observed for the rock partridge in Croatia (Subspecies A. g. graeca Meisner 1804; BirdLife International 2004). Negative population trends might be caused by habitat losses, detrimental climatic conditions or enhanced predation pressure. For the croatian distribution range, no studies on factors driving population dynamics of rock ptarmigan are available so far. Within the given project inception corresponding research activities will be developed.
