Selecting Management Alternatives Responding to Targets. Forest Optimization for Renewable Energy and Sequestration using Time-dependent Strategies
Abstract
The aim of the project is to provide Austrian decision makers and forest community stakeholders with currently unavailable information and tools to evaluate and improve management of forest resources, taking bioenergy and foreseeable changes in climate regulations into account. Content: 1. Model responses in representative Austrian forest types over time when harvest levels are increased to produce bioenergy. 2. Compare GHG emissions of wood-based bioenergy and fossil fuels over time. 3. Develop and make publically available a tool for stakeholders to calculate responses for themselves. 4. Describe likely relevant future climate-related instruments. 5. Identify combinations of carbon storage and fossil fuel substitution most effective in achieving mitigation goals. 6. Consult with stakeholders to determine appropriate uses of research results.
