K-Projekt "HFA TiMBER", Area 1.3 "Grain Deviation"
Abstract
Machine grading of lumber using microwaves The focus of the project is on local and global fiber deviation of lumber. These defects are not detected sufficiently by standard sorting principles. New microwave-based methods will be developed to overcome these drawbacks. With the new method it will be possible for the first time to measure grain deviation with local resolution in three dimensions. Additional information on wood moisture content and density will be provided by the system and can be used for more specialized grading.
