Sedimentresearch and -management at the danube
Abstract
The objective of this project is to achieve a scientific basis to analyse problems concerning sediment transport in Austria and Hungary and to develop integrative management solutions. At the end of the project the following targets are to be fulfilled: comparison between the different problem fields Upper/Middle Danube (gravel/sand bed river, steep/smooth slope), harmonized measuring and modelling systems, standardized field reports and manuals and development of practical management solutions. Beside this, there will be an evaluation of the existing laboratory equipment and measuring systems. A research channel with a free-flowing discharge of m³/s will be build, which at the same time, will be the inlet channel for the future hydraulic laboratory in Vienna (“Responsible River Modelling Center”, part of activity 1 of the EUSDR flagship project DREAM). The results of this project and the management strategies should be available for all Danube countries within the project DREAM.
