Short rotation coppice at the landfill site of Allerheiligen, Styria
Abstract
At the landfill site of Allerheiligen, Styria, a short rotation coppice is planted with the following purposes: - minimization of leachate (finally it has to be less than 5 % of yearly rainfall) - minimization of costs by the cheaper coverage and profit from the produced biomass yield - maximization of the production of renewable energy wood to enhance the regional energy supply - protection against erosion and integration of the landfill site into the landscape The project covers the set-up of the plantation, the assessment of the plants by physiological water stress measurements and the investigation of wood quality and biomass yield and the observation of the substrate.
