Children and teenager explore soil bioengineering as innovativ and sustainable techniques in urban rivers
Abstract
The focus of the project „Technik im Fluss“ lies on soil bioengineering research as an important part of near nature river engineering. Living plants are used as construction materials and so fulfil technical, ecological and esthetical aspects when revitalising river ecosystems. An on-going construction site at the Wienfluss provides the possibility for children from early school age up to high school students to experience this topic on a regional scale in the frame of planning workshops and experimental research. Diverse innovative education activities influence their existing idea of technique and nature in river ecosystems; especially in urban rivers; and inspire children and young persons for MINT professions. As multipliers they can spread their new knowledge and their experiences in their environment.
