Hydrodynamics of the Danube River in the Lobau floodplain 1817
Abstract
A digital terrain model (DTM) of the Danube River in the Lobau near Vienna is compiled based on historical surveys from 1817. This DTM is used for a hydrodynamic simulation of the Danube system prior to channelization with a focus on individual types of waterbodies. The simulation is performed for low flow, mean flow and a 1-year flood (approx. bankfull water level). The results are distributions of flow velocities and water depths for each type of waterbody and flow situation.
