Book project "Austria's Danube - Landscape - Fish - History"
Abstract
The scope of the book is the Austrian Danube, its fish fauna and its riverine habitats. Popular scientific designed, with approximately 250 pages richly illustrated, the book is aimed primarily at the Danube- and ecology-interested public. The main chapters of the book are: 1. Danube catchment/fish fauna of the whole river (geological development, river landscapes/habitats, Danube fish and their zoogeographical distribution) 2. Austrian Danube/fish fauna - historical development (in 3 temporal phases, development of fish fauna and fisheries, habitat development, human uses in the Danube river landscapes) 3. Austrian Danube/fish fauna - current state (status quo of human interventions and fish fauna, ecological state, first restorations) 4. Restorations & leitbild for the future development (basic principles, legal basis, concepts, plans, projects implemented, initial success, monitoring) 5. Perspectives & future potential (restoration opportunities, maximum potential, fish fauna, ecosystem services)
