Abstract:
Infection of heads by F. culmorum caused a drastic increase in the concentrations of type B trichothecenes in the grain of Triticum aestivum. T. spelta and T. dicoccum. DON and NIV were found ill all grain samples. The average DON concentration in grain from inoculated spikes was 5616 mu g kg(-1) in common wheat and 3900 mu g kg(-1) in spell, with significant variation among cultivars. Emmer grain contained relatively low quantities of DON and NIV (2030.9 mu g kg(-1) and 7.7 mu g kg(-1) respectively).
