Genomic selection for nitrogen use efficiency in wheat
Abstract
We will develop and refine genomic selection (GS) tools for predicting yield, yield under low nitrogen, bread making quality traits, and stress resistance in a modern winter wheat breeding population. For this purpose several 100 modern winter wheat breeding lines will be field evaluated in multiple locations and years under normal and under reduced nitrogen fertilization. Lines will be fingerprinted using genotyping-by-sequencing SNP markers. Phenotypic data and genomic data will be analyzed together using modern biostatistical tools to derive genomic predictions for complex phenotypic traits, that can be implemented in breeding programs.
