Characterication of the gain as well as the loss of function of sink tissues in Vitis ssp. as determined by nodosity formation and berry shrivel development
Abstract
In the proposed project we are going to investigate two systems manipulating the sink source balance in grapvine palnts. Grape phylloxera on the one hand, inducing additional sinks by root gall formation and BS on the other hand, a ripening disorder loosing the sink activity of individual grape clusters. Both physiological systems are not well understood and several interesting questions can be adressed. Within this project we will focus on cell walls and cell wall modifications. The expression of candidate genes will be analyzed and combined with anatomical informations obtained with light and transmission electron microscopy. The results will support each other and provide new knowledge. The focus at SGGW will be on microscopy and at BOKU on gene expression with qPCR. Both methods are well established in the corresponding laboratories and synergies are evident.
