Milking cow keeping in an open-sloped-floor housing system
Abstract
In an open-sloped-floor housing for milking cows influence of climatic conditions and of order of precedence on animal behaviour are investigated. Animal behaviour is analysed via video recording and via direct observation. Special consideration is given to the influence of air temperature, humidity, and velocity, of temperature of the manure mattress and of social order of precedence on lying, standing and walking behaviour of the cows. From the results recommendations are deduced on how to construct and operate an open-sloped-floor housing for milking cows.
