Online-flowcytometry for the characterisation of bank-filtered water
Abstract
The examination of the microbiological quality of drinking water is simply reduced by standard parameters set in the drinking water regulation. Further, it is based on cultivation-dependent methodologies with a set of limitations including low cultivation rates, especially in ground water systems. With the application of online-flowytometry partial in-situ characterisation of the microbial community at cell and particle level can be realised. Sudden and long-term changes of the microbial population profile can be detected with this technology. The online-approach in flowcytometry is the first tested in Austrian bank filtered water.
