AEIOU - Potentials of maximising the output of the national travel survey "Österreich Unterwegs"
Abstract
The study "AEIOU" aims at a critical analysis and application-oriented processing of the results of the Austria-wide mobility survey "Austria Unterwegs" of the bmvit. The existing knowledge base has been worked up in such a way that the concrete applicability of the results is as high as possible. The active participation of two project partners (HERRY Consult, BOKU / IVe) in the survey made it possible to examine them from an insider perspective. The two other project partners (TU / IVS, TRAFFIX Transport Planning) introduced a critical external view and made it possible to test the usability and usability of the data sets from a user perspective, which among other things also served to develop an indicator set as an evidence base for political decision-makers , In addition, the identified value generation opportunities will further maximize the value of as many data applications as possible. It started with a critical, retrospective analysis of the results of the survey "Austria on the move", during which the experiences of the project partners from the survey process were processed. In addition, the quality and quantity (in particular item and unit non-response) were assessed on the basis of the collected mobility data. "Austria on the road" pursues the goal of raising the mobility of the Austrian population in budgetary contexts over a whole year. In addition to this objective, the KOMOD Report also provided for a number of general mobility requirements for different stakeholders. In this regard, AEIOU evaluated and documented whether and to what extent these goals and requirements were met. The results show that most of the expectations have been met and the results can be used satisfactorily, but that there are recommendations for the next mobility survey in terms of content, method, sample, data processing and data preparation. In addition, the collection of specific topics via sub-samples is recommended. In order to derive possible new applications and the resulting research questions, a comparison between the current survey and the last Austria-wide mobility survey from 1995 was carried out both methodologically and in terms of content. For the same purpose, a survey of researchers on their current research projects and the integration of the results from "Austria on the Road" was initiated. Another focal point was the development of an indicator set, which was intended to create a high-quality evidence base for decision-makers in transport and innovation policy and in impact-oriented management. The foundation for this was the development of indicators that can be derived from the "Austria on the road" data. The main indicators developed have been assigned to current policy areas in order to provide an overview of which topics may benefit them. The monitoring strategy for the indicator set, which has also been developed, serves to ensure a regular and qualitatively constant updating of the data collection.
