Floods and aquatic environment in a changed climate – innovative methods for restoration and improved environmental status in Norway
Abstract
Aim of the multi-annual research project is to develop integrative management plans for four rivers in the Kommune Sogn og Fjordane / Western Norway to consider both, the aims of a sustainable flood risk management and the targets of the European Water Framework Directive. A fundamental principle in this integrative approach will be the consideration of morphodynamic processes and self-forming development of the rivers in terms of floodings. The integrative management plans will be derived together with fish-biologist including comprehensive field studies and hydrodynamic-numerical modelling. The pilot - project should test and highlight structural and non-structural management opportunities for a sustainable and integrative flood management for entire Norway.
