Monitoring of benthic invertebrates in the Danube backwater "Alte Donau" 2017 (LIFE12ENV/AT/000128)
Abstract
The study deals with the investigation of the ecological status concerning the benthic invertebrate biodiversity of the Danube backwater "Alte Donau" in Vienna. Four sites will be investigated with a major focus on detecting biodiversity linked to habitat diversity in order to consider the influence of renaturation and structuring activities in riparian zones in the course of the LIFE+ project "Urban Lake Alte Donau" . For this purpose, a modified sampling design is applied, which aims at a habitat-related sampling of invertebrates, in order to ensure detailed analyzes between the different habitat types. The site selection is carried out in consultation with representatives of MA 45. The samples are subjected to a full taxonomic analysis, for the evaluation the software ECOPROF is used. Processing of macroinvertebrates is done by specialists of AG Benthic Ecology (BOKU).
