Contra-flow cycling in one-way streets - traffic analysis
- Lebensraum und Landschaft
Abstract
The main objective of the traffic analysis - Contra-flow cycling in one-way streets - is to improve the safety of cyclists using cycle paths and lanes in one-way streets in contra-flow direction. Safety problems occur mainly at crossings when car drivers turning into or crossing the one-way street concentrate on the traffic in the one-way direction overlooking contra-flow cyclists. The observation and analysis of the traffic at four specific intersections will identify site specific causes of safety issues. Measures to improve the situation will be identified and suggested. The main research questions are: Which role play objective traffic flow indicators (e.g. vehicle trajectory) and human information processing (e.g. viewing behaviour). What is needed to reduce the risk of driver misjudgements?
- Cycling
- Traffic safety
- One-way streets
- Viewing behaviour
