Methodological development of the evaluation of REStoration measures by CULtural Ecosystem Services - ResCules
Abstract
The main aim of ResCules is the development of practicable methods for the collection and evaluation of cultural ecosystem services (CES) of restored river stretches. This includes both the identification of meaningful criteria and indicators, as well as the further development of a non-monetary assessment method and its testing on three case studies. To date, there is no standardized approach to assessing restoration measures in terms of their added value with regard to socio-cultural aspects. The approach developed here aims to providing a practicable method of systematically assessing cultural CES based on existing data. As a result, the developed method will also be applicable to other watercourses and be included in monitoring and evaluation processes of river restoration projects. Also, based on the identification of socio-cultural criteria for successful river restoration, within ResCules recommendations for future restoration and monitoring processes will be formulated.
