Molecular modeling of humus-mineral interactions
Abstract
In the present project, we study the interactions of humic substances with mineral soil components, e.g. clay minerals and iron oxides at the molecular level. In doing so, methods of theoretical chemistry are used at different scales. The goal is to describe molecular stabilization mechanisms of organic matter in soil. This is e.g. important for the interaction of soil aggregates with pollutants and for carbon sequestration in the soil.
