Game management of wild ruminants in Lower Austria: development of a future-oriented decision model
Abstract
The end product of the project will be a tool to maximize the satisfaction of diverse stakeholders in the management of wild ruminants in Lower Austria. The interests of various groups and land users will be taken into account in the development of the decision tool. We would like to move away from sectoral thinking towards integral approaches. For this reason, stakeholders from a wide range of fields are invited to participate in workshops. An important aim of the workshops is to jointly identify metrics of sustainability with regard to ecological, economic and socio-cultural goals. These are then incorporated into the decision model. Sustainability represents wise use of natural resources so that they will remain abundant and available in the future. The decision model informs allocation of resources related to management of ruminant species that are subject to the hunting law.
