Sustanable use of underground water resourses and safe drinking water in the municipality of Gjakova
Abstract
This University Support Grant is request by University of Gjakova, Kosovo to increase research capabilities among University students and academic staff by estimating the situation of drinking water supply in the Municipality of Gjakova, and ultimately identifying potential risks of drinking water. In this research National and European standards on monitoring water quality from wells for drinking water purposes will be used. Samples from 20 wells, from urban and rura areas will be collected and the primary basic analysis will be performed in situ from academic staff and students from our University. Specific analysis like chemical, bacteriological parameters, trihalomethanes, heavy metals and pesticides will be performed at National Institute of Public Health in Prishtina, contributing in inter-institutional collaboration. In this way, the level of contamination in single wells will be identified and recommendations for their safe use can be done, contribute to the protection of public health. Finally, this project, Kosovo ends up with professionals trained in good practice and ready for future contribution in academic and scientific sectors in Kosova, as well as providing of recommendations for the safe use of wells for drinking water needs will be organized in Gjakova.
