Stable carbon fractionation and soil health in Lower Austrian soils
Abstract
Soil organic matter is considered as one of the key factors of soil health. In this project we aim at carbon fractionation and determination of stable organic carbon associated with the textural fraction <20 µm in topsoil samples obtained in previous sampling campaigns of the Lower Austrian soil monitoring programm. Moreover, the same approach will be employed to determine stable organic carbon in cultivated soils and adjacent soils from hedge rows of differential age (10 to>70 years) to determine the dynamics and the potential of carbon sequestration after turning cultivated land in hedge rows. The results will be used to improve maps of carbon sequestration generated in related projects.
