Global Drivers, local consequences: Tools for climate change adapatation and sustainable development for Arctic industrial and cultural hubs
Abstract
The strategic goal of the ArcticHubs project is to develop solution-oriented responses to reconciliation of competing livelihoods and land-use modes. Solutions are based on multidisciplinary identification and analysis of global drivers and pressures with high societal and economic impacts and deep analysis of the consequences of the concentration process and global actors’ operations in the Arctic. Often livelihoods and land use modes are dealt with separately while in this project the emphasis will be in the cumulative impacts thus taking into account all dimensions of sustainability. The project focuses on developing the public participatory GIS (PPGIS) to a more interactive tool for different interest groups to communicate environmental changes and socio-cultural issues. The research and development work will be carried out by a multidisciplinary consortium that has very extensive experience of research in different disciplines, such as tourism, silviculture, forest technology, remote sensing, PPGIS and sociological impacts of mining.
