Revision of the Austrian set of indicators for sustainable forest management
Abstract
The ÖWAD indicator set which is part of the Austrian Forest Programme is a "living document" that is regularly updated. During the last revision which took place from 2016 to 2017, one indicator was deleted and 3 new indicators (5.5, 7.5, 7.6) were added to the set. In addition, data were updated, targets or thresholds were adapted by the indicator working group and indicative evaluations were formulated. The key indicator fact sheets have also been updated. The ÖWAD indicator set was adopted at the 18th Forest Forum on May 16, 2017. Since a BOKU study on non-wood products and services and the recently published current results of the Austrian Forest Inventory 2016-2021 provide new and additional forest data for Austria, it is advisable to update the indicator report in order to present it at the next Ministerial Conference on the Protection of Forests in Europe in Bratislava / Slovakia. This conference was originally planned for October 2020, but has now been postponed to April 2021 due to COVID. The planned work includes updating the data of all indicators through inquiries to various data providers and own research, as well as an indicative sustainability assessment of each individual indicator.
