Climate change adaptation concept City of Salzburg
Abstract
Urban growth and the increasing (re-)densification of urban areas lead to land use conflicts and conflicts of targets and, as a result, to a loss of green (and blue) infrastructure. The changes in the world climate intensify the so-called urban heat island effect (UHI), change rainfall events and have negative consequences for the health of the residents and their quality of life. Numerous studies have shown that urban green and blue infrastructure can make a decisive contribution to reducing this heat load and to rainwater management. The declared aim of the city of Salzburg is to contribute to a pleasant city climate through climate-sensitive spatial development and, in particular, by securing and expanding green and blue urban infrastructure, and thus to maintain and improve the quality of life in the city. The study should contribute to the revision of the spatial development concept of the city of Salzburg.
