Development of an analysis method for environmental impacts of milk production as a basis for a digital farm assessment tool
Abstract
The client, ZuchtData, is interested in developing a concept for an analysis method that expands the already developed "Efficiency check" to include the evaluation of environmental impacts of milk production. In the research project, a concept for a new, effort-reduced environmental impact calculation method is therefore developed and implemented in an MS Excel application. The development of the method is based on preliminary work at the contractor and the client (life cycle assessment models and evaluations by the contractor, research project "Efficient cow" as well as module "Efficiency check" by ZuchtData). The method is designed in such a way that existing data of cattle farms (recorded in the cattle data network RDV) are used in the best possible way and supplemented by additional data for an analysis and evaluation of environmental impacts, especially in the areas of animal husbandry and on-farm feed provision. Calculation methods, algorithms and emission factors are chosen in such a way that participating dairy farms can be analysed and evaluated without great effort for the farm managers. Furthermore, the project will (partially) validate the new, effort-reduced calculation method with a more extensive, more detailed calculation method in terms of data requirements. Furthermore, in addition to a project report, a conference paper will be prepared so that the newly developed calculation method can be discussed in the scientific community during or after completion of the project.
